My
name is June Charbonneau, formerly June Plant of Braebriar Kennels. I began
raising Cairns in 1969. As a child I heard wonderful stories about Cairns from
my Scottish born mother. This was the breed closest to my heart. My mom, "Isabel
Wismer" was going home to Scotland for a visit, so this was the perfect
opportunity to purchase a female. Mom chose a very sweet girl by the name
of "Bentview Lightfoot"
This was the beginning of many years of breeding
& showing Cairns. One very outstanding dog I bred was "Braebriars Brody".
"Brody can still be found in the background of Cairns all over N. America.
After a time I transferred my Cairns & kennel name "Braebriar "
to my sister, "Jeannie MacLean", who continues to breed & show
under that prefix.

Ten years went by & soon the longing for my beloved
Cairns got the best of me. I then began, "Grayfriar Kennels",
with the help of my lifelong friends, Margaret & Hugh Kinsley .The Kinsleys
had built a solid reputation & housed some of Canada's top dogs. I
was privy to a selection of Canadian, German, English, Scottish
lines, chosen carefully by Margaret & Hugh. Margaret passed away in April,
2001, leaving behind her loving husband Hugh to carry on the "Alamawa"
lines. Margaret is greatly missed but her memory lives on in these wonderful
little terriers. Hugh remains my friend & mentor.

Cairns originated in Scotland. They have a medium
length coat, harsh on the outside & soft underneath. This allows them to
enjoy the outdoors even in cold weather. Cairns are great fun for the entire
family. They love adventure but are also content to lie quietly on your lap.
